Are You Over-Doing It?

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that DOING things is the way to get ahead and to be successful in life. Ultra-successful people are not focused on what they DO. Ultra-successful people have a different way of looking at the world.

Most people look at the world in terms of DO - HAVE - BE. They have an inkling of what they want their life to look like, and to make that happen, they start DOING something, to make it happen. For example, let's say that you want to be a licensed psychologist. First you go to college, get a degree, and then you go on to graduate school. When you graduate, you then take your exam, and when you pass, you are able to practice psychology. Because you have DONE the things you "needed" to DO, you then HAVE the degree and the license to practice. At this point you can say that you are able to BE a psychologist. The model is complete: DO - HAVE - BE. That is how most people have life wired. The problem is, life really doesn't work that way. We think it does, because that is what we have been taught and because most everyone we know believes the same way.

Since DOING is the first step, we mistakenly believe that more DOING is better. We get caught in the trap of thinking, "If I can just put a few more hours in the day, my life will really take off!" Of course, we can't put more hours in the day, so we often choose to put more day in the hours. We multi-task, we eat on the run, we work more hours, all in the name of DOING more. We are DOING machines, and it is making us sick. Heart disease, ulcers, insomnia, chronic anxiety, and a host of other diseases can be caused by work-related stress. The funny thing is that for years people have been doing all kinds of things to "manage" stress, as though stress is an inevitable part of life, and all we can do is keep it under control.

Here's the thing: You don't have to "manage" stress, eat on the run, or work 60 hours per week to get ahead. In fact, if you are working that hard, you may actually be hindering your success.

Life really operates according to a different model and ultra-successful people know that. They know, either consciously or unconsciously that the world works according to the model, BE - DO - HAVE.

The BE - DO - HAVE model works like this: Let's use the same example that we used before, of you wanting to BE a psychologist. Using the old model, there was years of hard work between you and BEING your goal. In this new model, there is nothing between you and BEING your goal. You can simply choose to BE it right now. If you choose to, you can "BE" a psychologist in this moment, just because you say so, in the face of no evidence!

From that BEINGNESS, the DOING will easily and effortlessly flow. If you are BEING psychologist right now, you can then DO what comes from that BEING, like go to college and finish your advanced degree. From there you can get your license, start a practice and then HAVE what psychologists have. Once you are BEING psychologist, and DOING psychologist, you will be able to HAVE the clients, the practice, and the success that psychologists have.

Once you start practicing this model, you will find that it amounts to much more than just the order in which things are executed. You will find, as you practice, that BEING calls forth the power of the Universe. You'll find that, to the degree that you BE your goals, with belief and feeling, situations and circumstance in your life will unfold to support you in having your goals achieved and in having the life that you really want.
